World Forum visited with tribal representatives in Vijaynagar, India, to learn about DISHA,
Developing Initiatives for Social and Human Action (www.disha-india.org), an NGO that works for the rights of indigenous people around agriculture, land rights, and union issues.
Paulomee Mistry, head of DISHA, educated us about her work and the four types of power: financial power, physical power, intellectual power, and �" if you don’t have any of these,
then the power you can achieve is by coming together �" collective power.


Working Group on Men in Early Childhood Education

Bryan G. Nelson, co-facilitator of the Working Group on Men in Early Childhood Education (MECE), presented at the “Foro Mundial de Grupos de Trabajo: Primera Infancia, Sociedad Civil y Estado,” which took place on November 2-6, 2009, in Cali, Colombia. There was great interest from attendees about the role of men in young children’s lives. Participants asked about ways to increase the percentage of men teaching and also about other significant men in children’s lives. Several of the men who participated in the workshop were excited to share that there is an active men’s movement in Latin American countries challenging stereotypes about gender roles.
