Dear Reader,

Responding to many requests, I have included the most popular feature of the old newsletter that preceded this column, the "What's Wrong with This Picture?" feature. I assure you that any photos I will include are very old and could not possibly reflect any program I have visited recently. If you are brave enough to share any contribution for this column, I promise I will not reveal your identity. Knowing that nobody is perfect, I think we can always benefit from identifying practices that may not be the best.

My thanks to Penny Rover for letting me pick her brain for the article about toddler themes. Please share some of the successful themes you have enjoyed with your toddlers! We'll describe them in future issues. Also, please send good ideas, photos, comments, etc. to my address at the end of this article.



Many successful toddler programs thrive on individualized planning and build on informal, spontaneous happenings. But because programs are used to planning around themes for older children, they carry the concept down to the toddler level. Often, the theme falls short.
