It is undeniable—in 2018, the ways adults work, learn, and socialize is influenced by technology. This represents a major shift in our society. Therefore, why not use technology to tune into children’s learning and engagement with the everyday science around us?
The increasing use of audio-visual media in children’s everyday learning environment calls for attention to how prudently we can use technology for educational purposes. Although the paradoxical influence of technology on innocent minds cannot be ruled out, striking a sensible balance is the key.
In this article we will explore children’s formal learning environments, varying play-based pedagogical practices, and the use of technology to creatively engage with science. We believe that technology can create significant implications on the absorption of science knowledge and skills. We will provide insights into what is currently known about how teachers and parents engage young children in learning science. Secondly, we suggest technology-based science activities that have the ultimate goal of shaping young children’s science engagement from preschool onwards.
