In these uncertain times, how thrilling to find early childhood professionals who are not trying to get back to an old normal, but rather seizing the moment for reimagining new possibilities. This involves courage and conviction, drawing on research and resources within and outside our field, as well as within and outside ourselves. Our task, really, is to boldly claim how we want to live and evolve as human beings; what we want to reclaim, leave behind, replace. Given all the challenges we face, reimagining professional learning is a key task before us. Our workforce will not stabilize, let alone thrive, until we realign the economic backbone of caring and education with what we know about pedagogical practices that support engaged learning for both children and educators.

Some of the best thinking, leg work, and resources for reimagining the finances of ECE is underway with Louise Stoney and her colleagues at the Opportunities Exchange (oppex.org). My own work has primarily focused on the pedagogical side, but I link arms with them in spirit and salutes.
