The Sustainable Development Goals: An Opportunity for Young Children

Recent global climate change debates remind us that in our crowded global world today no person, organization, or country can solve big problems alone. No country can ensure its citizens’ well-being in isolation any longer. The challenge to sustain our earth and a healthy, prosperous, and peaceful human population can only be met if people and nations around the world cooperate.

To meet our shared global challenges, the nations of the world have created a set of Sustainable Development Goals to embody a global vision of a better, sustainable future for all people. This vision will guide international action and collaboration on environmental, economic, and social issues for the next 15 years.

For us in the field of early childhood it seems self-evident that strong investment and savvy strategic planning for young ­children is key to sustaining our Earth, our societies and cultures, our thriving (or failing) economies, and our human well-being into the future.
