VIGNETTE #1:
It is 6:30 Monday morning. Gomez looks expectantly at the clock; in as few as 10 minutes, children will start arriving in his classroom. He’s replayed the stress of last Friday in his head all weekend, dreading this morning. He had thought the position at the child care center as lead teacher would not be too difficult; after all, he was the oldest of seven brothers and sisters and had his share of responsibilities in their care growing up. However, it’s quite a different situation to manage a class of three-year-old children. He’s tried several things to entertain them, but nothing’s worked. They just won’t listen. He’s frustrated and left with an incredible headache. To make matters worse, he feels like he’s coming down with the cold that’s been making its way around the classroom. He spent most of the weekend in bed feeling like a failure. Having only started in this position one month ago, Gomez doesn’t know any of the other staff.
