On the November day when the United States lifted travel bans that had excluded so many people from crossing its borders during the pandemic, the photos and videos of joyful family reunions were reminiscent of that wonderful closing scene of the movie “Love Actually.” Babies and grandparents, old friends, young lovers greeting each other after long months apart were visual and emotional proof that, “If you look for it, you will find that love actually is all around.” Here are some recent children’s books that celebrate all kinds of love, all around us. 

A child asks his mother, “What is love, Mama?” As they prepare a traditional Chinese meal for their family, mother and child reflect on the smells, colors, tastes, and sounds of love. In My Love for You is Always, the mother reminds her child that her love is always and goes round and round like the rim of a bowl, with no beginning and no end. What a comforting message for a small child!
