At Deutsche Bank Kid's Corner in Nashville, Tennessee, "No day is a normal day," says Sheila Ford, the center director. Welcome to the interesting, challenging, and rewarding job of being a center director for a back-up center. Back-up centers provide child care when a family's regular child care arrangements breakdown or are not available. Bright Horizons Back-Up Solutions division currently operates 36 dedicated back-up centers and more than 20 additional back-up programs in full service centers.

When offered the director's position at Deutsche Bank two-and-a-half years ago, Sheila "had no clue what back-up care was." She had worked for Bright Horizons part-time throughout college at the Knob Hill Children's Center in Nashville as a teacher, bus driver, floater, and night cook, doing whatever else needed to be done. "They were very flexible working with me while I was getting my degree," says Ford.

When she got her Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education from Tennessee State University, she took a director's position with a non-profit center in Nashville, but she stayed in touch with Bright Horizons through her friend and Bright Horizons recruiter, Laura Bilbrey.
