What's wrong with Mrs. A? The director and staff of a neighborhood child care center have a number of complaints about Mrs. A. The most immediate concerns something that just happened. It was late afternoon when Mrs. A's three-year-old daughter Lia was waiting by the door for her mother to come. When Lia saw her mother coming up the steps, she grabbed her coat and started to put it on. Two staff members happened to be close by and stopped what they were doing to watch Lia struggle with her coat. Without drawing attention to themselves, they silently cheered her on because this was the first time Lia had ever attempted to put on her own coat. They had been trying to get her to do that since she first enrolled, but the little girl always just waited until her mother arrived and then stood passively while her mother put the coat on her. Lia was just about to get her arm in the sleeve when Mrs. A came in the door, rushed over to her, and grabbed the coat out of her hands. Mrs. A frowned at the watching pair of teachers while she put the coat on her daughter.
