- Situation -I am furious with my son. Our daily ride home drives us both to tears. He howls the entire way. Every evening I arrive at his child care center, greet him, and we head to the car. Then the grief begins. I have to buckle him into his car seat. He arches his back, squirms, and kicks at me. I issue threats, lose my temper, and end up forcing him into the seat. He thrashes about, screams, and tries to get unbuckled.
The same scene occurs every time we get into the car, not just after a day at child care. His safety is at issue, but I dread those constant battles. A ride of any duration while listening to him carry on prompts me to clench the steering wheel until my hands ache. I know he hates being unable to move around, but he has to be buckled up. I can't give him any other choices. Help!
