A director’s group is a place where early childhood program directors can go to be nurtured spiritually, mentally, and physically. In other words, a place where they can put themselves back at the top of their list of priorities. As leaders in our community and at work, we are wrapped up every day with meetings, deadlines, trying to make and return important telephone calls, problem solving staff issues, and completing paperwork that piles up on our desks. On a daily basis we deal with all kinds of families that come through our doors presenting different types of issues. We deal with grandparents who are raising their grandchildren; parents who are addicted to drugs, alcohol, or both; homeless families; and parents who are struggling everyday to survive in these tough economic times. We’re caretakers and caregivers to our parents, teachers, and children. That is why it’s extremely important to have a directors’ group in your community, a support system outside of work.
