Early childhood administrators are quickly discovering how tech tools can aid them in providing staff training and parent education. Many of these tools allow for greater flexibility in distribution and enhanced interaction.

Tech Terms

•Portable computer: A mobile computer that is typically smaller and lighter than a traditional desktop computer and can run on a rechargeable battery. Portable computers come in a variety of designs and go by many different names (e.g., notebook, laptop, tablet, PDA, palm, etc.).

•Digital camera: A device typically used to capture and store still images in electronic format. Once a picture has been taken it can be downloaded to a computer and then edited with a graphics program and printed. A digital video camcorder is used to capture and store video in electronic format.

•LCD projector: A device used for the purpose of projecting an image from a computer or video device onto a wall or screen for large image viewing. LCD is short for liquid crystal display.

•CD-ROM player: A device used to read or play text, graphics, video, and sound. It’s short for compact disc-read-only memory.

•DVD player: A device used to play digital video and other multimedia presentations that combine sound with graphics. DVD is short for digital ...
