Is this a good or bad time to purchase center management software?

I think this is one of the best times ever for such a purchase for three reasons. First, things are more stable, with fewer center management software companies entering and departing the market. Since a potential buyer wants to have confidence that the company will remain in business to provide service and upgrades, stability is a critical variable in this industry. Second, many companies have recently made substantial improvements to their product lines, and have had a year or two to debug these updates, leading to substantially better software. In general, brand new customers are getting up to speed quickly, and customers migrating from DOS to Windows-based products are moving forward reasonably well. Third, Y2K has come and gone and the effects were much fewer than feared.
