Slowly stalking through the grass, a butterfly net in her hand, my daughter patiently tracks and follows a butterfly. It flutters from one dandelion to the next. As it lands, she pauses. Reaching out with her net, she brings it down, landing over the yellow puff just as the butterfly moves to a neighboring bloom. You can see the disappointment on her face, yet she does not get discouraged. Her gaze shifts and locates the butterfly on a new dandelion. Creeping over to this new perch, she extends her net once again. Empty. She continues with determination, repeating this pattern until, after several minutes, she catches it. A big smile on her face, she lifts her net up, taking a closer look. As she leans in the butterfly takes flight, and her smile is replaced with furrowed brows.

She lets out a breath and disappears into the garage, returning with a second net. Spying the butterfly, she resumes her quest. Within a few minutes she has the butterfly. A smile begins to creep across her face as she carefully moves the second net under the first. Now she is beaming, the butterfly carefully enclosed.

“I caught a butterfly! Come see! I caught it!” ...
