Since the first week of June, our nation has been consumed with images of the tragic murder of George Floyd, the harsh reality of the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on communities of color, and the justified outrage that has ensued. It is difficult to speak to courageous leadership at this time without acknowledging that leaders around our country have a profound obligation to condemn these atrocities. They must listen and give voice to those who are subjected to prejudice and racism on a daily basis, those who stand with them, and those who call for meaningful change. The resolve to promote equity and to recognize and address these deep-seated disparities is the measure of true leadership. So as I reflect on the leadership that has served us through the crisis created by the global pandemic, we must now be held to an even higher standard if we are to build hope for the future.
