“I dread the monthly board meetings,” said Marlene, the executive director of a community-based human service agency with two child care sites. “I always walk away from the meetings with a list, two or three pages long, of tasks the board wants me to complete. Sometimes the tasks are important, like completing a new grant application. But sometimes the board wants me to do things that I don’t think are worthwhile, like compare the prices of different food vendors. We only have four administrators in our whole agency. Don’t they realize how hard I’m working?”
