The weekend I just spent in Chicago with my daughter, Alison, and her friends and co-workers leaves me filled up and overflowing with thoughts, impressions, bits of conversations, emotions, and respect.Chad works with people who are homeless; Emily in a child care program; Ivy as youth director in a local church; Daniel in an alternative high school; Alison with emergency feeding and energy programs; and Wendy, away in Guatemala, works for social justice in Central America.
These are people who have dedicated their lives to figuring out what is the right thing to do and then doing it. "Someone described our LVC (Lutheran Volunteer Corps) year as a chance to see society in a different way. Like a mechanic, we are able to get up under it and see it from a totally different angle - a more accurate one," says Alison. Their dreams for the future include extensions of what they are learning and experiencing now - they are awesome role models.
