As I entered the first Preschool Parent Discussion Group meeting, this is what I remember: The space was warm and inviting, a dozen chairs were placed in a circle in the middle of the room, the smell of coffee and muffins filled the air, and parents of preschoolers were casually mingling with each other in small groups as they smiled and nodded. I had a feeling deep down that this was going to be good! 

As the Head of the School in Rose Valley in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, I could see parents from my office window talking in small groups on the playground after preschool morning drop-off. Some mornings they would talk for only a few minutes, other mornings it was for a much longer stretch of time. Curious, I asked a preschool parent about it one day, “What are the parents talking so intensely about after they drop their children off?” She answered, “About how difficult and confusing parenting can be.” Ah, parents talking to other parents about parenting. It made perfect sense.
