Hiring and promotion decisions in all fields are made based on an evaluation of a candidate’s demonstration of competence. Early childhood education is no different; being hired for a teaching or administrative position or being promoted requires you to showcase your knowledge, skills, and competencies. Early childhood professionals must be able to provide evidence of talent, an understanding of foundational knowledge of theory, teaching and learning strategies, and so on. With that being said, there are many professionals who have yet to learn how to showcase this information in a manner that validates their knowledge and skills. Portfolios can be the medium for collecting and displaying this information. With the recent integration of technology into all aspects of our lives, e-portfolios are a great platform to explore.

What is an e-Portfolio and Why Should We Use This Format?

An e-portfolio is an electronic portfolio, one that uses an online format. In 2002, the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education mandated that technology be integrated across teacher education curricula and placed an increased emphasis on the use of technology in demonstrating achievement (Foley, 2008).
