The killing of George Floyd, mass shootings of Asian women in Atlanta, and the ongoing poor treatment of immigrant children at the United States border have provided opportunities for teacher preparation programs to reflect on how teacher educators are building future educators. “The Reimagining Our Work initiative encompasses small groups of people coming together for a series of conversations, over a substantial stretch of time, to do the work of reimagining early childhood education. One of the goals of the ROW initiative is probing how to seize such opportunities” (Pelo & Carter, 2018). Or, as ROW convener and co-author of this article Cecilia Scott-Croff said, “If I were to summarize our complex work in its simplicity, I would say we are all working, and looking for ways to lead, to love, to restore, to resist together within the community.”

One call for action we offer is an invitation to create what Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. called “the beloved community.” The phrase beloved community was first adopted in the 20th century by philosopher-theologian Josiah Royce.
